Jurgen & Iris
After I came across Amanda Jo Williams song "Waiting for You". I was inspired and curious to see the various sounds and emotions of the Ukelele. I had only known it for the traditional stereotype Hawaiian music, but the depth of this instrument seemed like there had to be so much more. In my search across the universe. via the inter highway, I came across an ethereal piece a music that felt like it was created in the heavens. It carried an angelic haunting sound that I felt was perfect to underscore WFY. It's creators were a husband and wife named Jurgen and Iris living in Germany.
Jurgen Morgenstern is a improvising musician and sound artist whose pieces are organically developed and expressed. He is a solo artist as well as a collaborator in various music ensembles.
He has taught music for over 30 years getting children and young people to fall in love with music -. often with success, and uses his talent as a music therapist helping children, adolescents and adults in difficult life situations.
Jurgen explained the story of how he and Iris came up with the music in "Waiting for You."
"In 2003 we visited Sweden and read about this - not in use - water tower with its extraordinary acoustic in Växjö, surrounded by meadows with cows,.... We went there and enjoyed it during a long afternoon, playing with our voices and that magnific delay. After a while I took my ukulele and improvised some minimal chords. Iris sang and we decided to record what we did. The end of our session was a heavy thunderstorm, some of that you can hear in the recording, if listening carefully. Later on we decided to share this wonderful moment of sound an being with interested people in the www. I took some minutes out of this almost 1 hour recording session. What you can hear is the pure sound, there is no external sound processing."
Thank you Jurgen and Iris .
